Hartland Asset Management

Hartland Asset Management

A SEC-registered investment advisor, Hartland develops and implements investment strategies that provide investors with superior risk adjusted returns and a portion of the economic impact (benefits) produced by their investment. This approach to investing, often called economically targeted investing, insists on earning risk-adjusted market rates of return, in contrast to social investments that in some cases will take a less than market rate of return in order to maximize the social benefits of the investment.

Hartland has developed a variety of investment strategies and types of investments that generate market rate returns and capture a portion of the economic benefit of the investment. For example, for one investor, HAMC provides enhanced fixed income returns through credit enhancement of tax-exempt bonds used to finance building improvements or new construction.

Lee Smith started Hartland in 1995 after serving for 12 years in the administration of New York Governor Mario Cuomo. In the course of his career in the public and private sectors he has developed over $500 million of investments across a range of investment types and capturing such diverse benefits as construction jobs, affordable housing, manufacturing jobs, and renewable energy. He has written extensively on economic and investment issues. Click here for more on Lee Smith.
